Happy Veterans Day!

I just wanted to take the time to thank all the veterans who have served our country. And also to thank the veterans in my family.

My mother's father, my grandfather Poppop, who is still living today fought for our country in WWII on a navy ship. His ship was hit with a torpedo from an enemy submarine. But as he says "it was a dud thank God, otherwise I wouldn't be here telling you my story, lol". He also had an encounter with an enemy on the ground when he was on mail duty. He had to leave the docked ship and go into town to get the mail for the ship. A guy tried to kill him with a machete when he was headed back to the ship. My grandfather said he shot him with his pistol and took off running to get help from the ship. When they came back the guy was gone!

My other grandfather, my father's dad, who is not living anymore fought in The Battle of the Bulge with the Army. During this time he helped free the Jews from the concentration camps. I don't know much else about him because he died several years later when my father was 9 years old. I do know he met General Patton. They were both in the same hospital at the same time.

My father-in-law Tom, Nathan's dad, fought in Vietnam with the Army. He started as a radio telephone operator and then went on to Tropic Lightning Ambush Academy where he received the highest score of all E4 and below. From this he was promoted to E4 and was allowed to lead ambush patrols in Vietnam. He joined the 4th Battalion, 23rd Infantry, of the 25th Infantry Division- Tomahawks. (now known as Stryker). He rode in helicopters and would have to jump out of them into the rice patties while the helicopter would "slow down" but not land. After 8 months in the field he was wounded in a rice patty while engaging the enemy in a firefight. He has bullet wound scars on his arm.

He has TWO Purple Heart Medals, a Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, a Vietnam Service Medal w/ 2 Bronze Service Stars, a Marksman (rifle) ribbon, a Combat Infantry Badge, and a National Defense Service Medal, to name a few :)

He was Honorably discharged leaving the Army as a Sgt E5 Command Information NCO and Training NCO.

I just want to say how proud I am to come from a family who has served their country with honor and pride. Without them we wouldn't have the freedoms we have today.

Thank you to all the veterans I have not met, to all of my friends who have served and/or are still serving and to my cousin who is currently in the Marine Corps. He just came home yesterday from being stationed in Georgia (the country).

Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Morning Heather,
So sorry to hear about your car being painted and all the stuff that is happening in your neighborhood. That is an unsettling feeling. I think the angels were guarding your property since they painted the window rather than the car. So glad he was able to get it off.
What a wonderful Veterans day post.
Loved hearing about your families
participation. My dad and father-in-law were both in the navy, my
father-in-law was on the Uss Yorktown and was also in the battle of Midway during WWII. My husband was in the Air Force before I knew him, and my half brothers were in the Marines and
served in the Viet Nam war. and my
step-brother and uncle were in the
Air Force as well. So I too, soooooo appreciate our men and women in uniform and the service that they give to God and country by fighting and protecting us.
We are a blessed nation, and I pray the Lord blesses our military
families with protection and safety
and mets their every need.
Thanks for reading my longggg Anniversary posts and for your sweet comments, they are very appreciated. I do hope the rest of the story helps someone, that is why I think the Lord wanted me to share it.
Ella looks so cute in her football jersey, and love the expression on
her face when she had to leave Mr. Blue!! So cute!
Wow, you are on the move, so neat you got all your shoeboxes done.
I have almost everything for the Moms box, and we are still working on a Dad box for our toybox
ministry at church. Think we might go out shopping again tonight. they aren't due till Dec. 1st but I would like to finish them and get them in early.
Got an email from my cousin this morning and haven't heard from him since early in the year so I was catching him up on stuff, so decided hey, a lot of what I am
writing would probably go in my
Christmas letter, so I copied it and pasted it and saved it. Think we are gonna send out Dayspring Christmas ecards and attach the letter to it, or if we can't I will send it separtely, then those we don't have emails for I will just mail a card with a letter. That will alleviate a lot
of work. I have sent ecards every year anyway to a lot of our friends.
Well, you have a great day, gotta get to the post office to
mail something.
Take Care hon and have a good day,
Keep up the good work!!
Love and Blessings, Nellie
anyway

Hi Heather
You must be so proud of your family members. I was interested to hear about their involvement in the war. We had our Remembrance Day yesterday too when we remember all those who have died fighting in wars.

Thanks, indeed, to all of them...every reason to be proud! Hope your week is going well (and that you have had no reason to be at all close to our crazy interstates this past couple days!!)

Wonderful post Heather!! I sure appreciate our veterans. I think I am coming out of my funk...but I still need sun. :) Emma and Mocha have been ill (but we will survive). I think that is why I haven't felt like posting much lately. Dealing with day to day stuff.

It will get better though!!

Great post! I'm so sorry to read about all the vandalism.I get angry about people too lazy to work for something getting jealous of those of us that have nice things. If they put all that energy into good they be sucessful. I sure hope they get caught! Jean

What a terrific post, Heather! Thank you for sharing the military background, experiences and accomplishments of your family. They are all heroes and we certainly owe a huge debt of graditude to them for serving our country. My dad was in WWII. . .also in the Navy, then we was called up to serve again in the Korean War. I was a very small kiddo when we met him at the train station as he arrived home from the Korean War, but I clearly recall how handsome he looked in his uniform. I still have one of his wool navy blankets in my cedar chest!

Hope you're having a great weekend.
